Haiti - Justice : Me Jean Renel Sénatus, new Commissioner of the Government

Tuesday afternoon, Me Marie Jocelyne Casimir, the Dean of the Civil Court of Port-au-Prince, has invested in his office, the new Government Commissioner, Me Jean Renel Sénatus. The latter succeeds to the Commissioner Lionel Constant Bourgoin, who resigned last Saturday, as part of the case Dorsinvil.

After Harrycidas Auguste, Sonel Jean François, Félix Léger and Lionel Constant Bourgouin, Me Sénatus is the fifth Commissioner of the Government to hold this position in less than 7 months. The ceremony was attended by, among others, Me Jean Saint Nogène Avillon, Deputy Director General of the Department of Justice and several lawyers of the bar.

The new Commissioner, known as a great defender of human rights, thanked the Government to have selected him for this position and promised offensive priority against pretrial detention, juvenile delinquency and violence against women.

In the last election, Me Jean Renel Sénatus was the lawyer of the Collective who had demanded the cancellation of the latter and those who had claimed that the President of the Provisional Electoral Council (CEP) Gaillot Dorsinvil and the Director General, Pierre Louis Opont answer to the questions of justice.

Mr. Sénatus, was also one of the lawyers of Wyclef Jean, then presidential candidate, as part of the decision of the CEP to exclude the candidate Wyclef.
