Haiti - Education : Report from the Secretary of Literacy

Four months after Mozart Clérisson took office as Secretary of State for Literacy, he presented a report on the activities of the State Secretariat for Literacy (BSEA) and the Non-Formal Education (SEAENF) office.

September 8, 2025 :

Celebration of International Literacy Day on September 8, 2025;

September 10, 2025 :

Launch of the literacy program in Pétion-Ville;

September 11-17, 2025 :

Conducting a training program for trainers in literacy techniques for more than 65 staff members of the Central Office;

September 17 and 19, 2025 :

Training sessions for over 200 literacy workers at the Pétion-Ville High School;

September 28 to October 4, 2025 :

The first mission of the State Secretariat for Literacy and Non-Formal Education (SEAENF) to the Northeast Department followed an invitation from the Minister of National Education, Augustin Antoine, to the Secretary of State to participate in the official opening of the 2025-2026 school year. As part of this mission, 225 workers in Fort-Liberté and 250 workers in the commune of Marmelade were also trained in literacy techniques;

October 27, 2025 :

Celebration of the first annual Partnership Day in the field of literacy in Haiti;

October 28, 2025 :

Participation of the BSEA in the celebration of the 42nd International Creole Language and Culture Day, at the invitation of the Haitian Creole Academy (AKA);

November 6, 2025 :

Launch of the first literary competition for NS4 students on the importance of the Battle of Vertières for the Haitian people today, organized in collaboration with the Haitian Creole Academy;

November 20-30, 2025 :

Conducting a major tour in the Greater South region, including training for :

- 210 monitors and supervisors in the municipality of Jérémie (November 22-24, 2025);

- 136 monitors and supervisors in the municipality of Pestel (November 22-24, 2025);

- 255 monitors and supervisors in the municipality of Les Cayes (November 25-27, 2025);

- 310 monitors and supervisors in the municipality of Jacmel (November 28-30, 2025);

December 12-17, 2025 :

Conducting a mission in the Central Department, with training for over 435 literacy agents.

Mozart Clérisson specifies that, according to data available at the Bureau, 2,500 screening forms have already been received containing the names and information of more than 50,000 illiterate individuals who have expressed their willingness to learn to read and write in the literacy classes that will open at the beginning of January 2026.
