On this day of remembrance, the nation bows before the memory of the lives lost and shares the grief of the bereaved families. Mourning remains, but so does hope. Councillor Leslie Voltaire : "Today, we honor the memory of the victims of the January 12, 2010 earthquake. We remember the immense pain, but also the exemplary strength and dignity of the Haitian people. In the face of adversity, unity was our foundation. Sixteen years later, reconstruction remains our collective responsibility, and unity our shared drive. Their memory unites us. Their legacy compels us : a legacy of resilience, solidarity, and hope. Haitian National Police (PNH) : "On this Tuesday, January 12th, the earth shook; several thousand of our compatriots lost their lives, children and adults alike, not to mention the many others who were injured. Among the victims were dozens of police officers. Some were at their workplace, others perished while providing assistance to those in need. Today, I bow deeply to honor the memory of these people, and especially that of the police officers. Together, let us strive for a better Haiti, in peace and security in all its forms," André Jonas Vladimir Paraison, Acting Commander-in-Chief of the Haitian National Police (PNH). Port-au-Prince City Hall : January 12, 2010, remains etched in the heart of Port-au-Prince and in the memory of all the Haitian people. European Union : On this 16th commemoration of the terrible 2010 earthquake, Europe in Haiti bows before the memory of the victims of this tragedy and expresses its profound and unwavering solidarity with all the people.
