Haiti - FLASH : 4.0 magnitude earthquake near Anse-à-Pitres

On Thursday, February 5, 2026, at 2:31:42 a.m., an earthquake of 4.0 on the Richter scale was recorded at sea, 300 meters off the coast, 7 km northwest of the border town of Anse-à-Pitres (Southeast Department).

The epicenter was located at 18.08 degrees North latitude and 71.82 degrees West longitude, 34 km southeast of Marigot (Southeast Department), 18 km south of Thiotte (Southeast Department), and 9 km northwest of the border with the Dominican Republic, at a depth of 9 km.

No loss of life or damage has been reported so far by the Civil Protection (DPC) in connection with this seismic event.

According to witnesses, the earthquake was felt in several areas near the border. Those who were awake or who felt the tremor in their homes reported experiencing great fear, as it was an unexpected event at that early hour.
