Haiti - 2026 Winter Olympics : Franco-Haitian Richardson Viano ranked 44th best skier in the world in Giant Slalom

On Saturday, February 14, 2026, during the men's giant slalom at the XXV Olympic Winter Games in Milan-Cortin, on the Stelvio slope in Bormio, French-Haitian Richardson Viano (born August 16, 2002, in Croix-des-Missions, Tabarre) finished 47th in the first run with a time of 1:24.55 and 1:18.28 in the second run. In the final overall standings (combined time of both runs: 2:42.83), Richardson Viano finished 44th out of 81 participants.

Reacting to Richardson Viano's 44th world ranking in the Giant Slalom, Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé expressed immense pride in Viano's performance in the giant slalom.

"By once again representing Haiti on the international stage, Richardson Viano honors the blue and red flag and brings glory to our nation far beyond its borders. In a discipline as demanding as the giant slalom, where every gate requires precision, control, speed, and composure, he delivered a top-level performance, confirming his progress, his discipline, and his unwavering commitment to his country.

This historic qualification transcends the realm of sport. It embodies a powerful message of hope and resilience for all the Haitian people. In these times marked by great challenges, the achievement of one of our sons reminds us that determination, hard work, and faith in the future allow us to overcome the most demanding obstacles."

The Government reaffirms that national unity, institutional stability, and solidarity among all Haitians are the essential pillars of our recovery. Like elite sports, which demand discipline, focus, and perseverance, our country needs cohesion, collective responsibility, and a shared commitment to build a safer, more stable, and more prosperous future.

Richardson Viano demonstrates that, even when circumstances seem difficult, willpower and love of country can forge new paths.

His journey inspires our youth and reminds the world that Haitian talent knows no borders or limits.

On behalf of the Government and the Haitian people, the Prime Minister extends his warmest congratulations to Richardson Viano and assures him that the entire nation stands proud and united behind him."
