2027 World Cup : Haiti qualifies for the final round (video) 18/04/2026 07:34:47
On Friday, April 17, 2026, as part of the CONCACAF Women's Championship 2026, a qualifier for the 2027 World Cup, our Grenadières, leading Group D, faced the Dominican Republic, the "Quisqueyanos" at the Zami Stadium in Guadeloupe, in their final first-round qualifying match. With a score of 1-1, Haiti secured their qualification for the final round of World Cup qualifying, which will be held in Brazil in 2027. Starting Lineup : For this decisive match against the Dominican Republic, coach Pia Sundhage made three changes to the starting lineup from the resounding 5-0 victory against Anguilla. In defense : Claire Constant started in place of Maudeline Moryl. In attack : Melchie Dumornay alias "Corventina," came on as a substitute for Sherly Jeudy (who entered the game and scored Haiti's goal), and Roselord Borgella was preferred to Roseline Éloissaint to put more pressure on the Dominican defense from the opening whistle. These tactical choices paid off, as despite constant pressure from the Dominicans at the end of the match, Haiti's defensive organization allowed them to hold onto the lead and secure qualification. #1 Kaina César V. Summary : This match was crucial for first place in the group and qualification for the final round. Haiti only needed a draw to qualify, while the Dominican Republic (Quisqueyanos) absolutely had to win. After a first half where the defenses dominated the attacks, the score was 0-0 at halftime. After the break, the match was particularly close, with both goals scored in the second half. The match was marked by Haiti's statistical dominance, controlling the ball with approximately 59% possession compared to 41% for the Dominican Republic. In an electric atmosphere, our Grenadières managed to contain the Dominican Republic's attacks. In the 67th minute, Sherly Jeudy opened the scoring for Haiti [1-0] with a header from the center of the penalty area, into the bottom right corner, following a decisive pass from Jennyfer Limage. In the 73rd minute, Stella Tapia equalized for the Dominican Republic [1-1] with a right-footed shot from the right side of the penalty area, into the bottom right corner, after a set piece. This equalizer reignited the suspense but wasn't enough for the "Quisqueyanos" to take the lead. Despite intense pressure from their opponents at the end of the match, the Haitian defense, led by players like Claire Constant and Jennyfer Limage, held firm to secure the point needed for qualification. The Grenadières were far more dangerous in this match with 19 shots (5 on target), while the "Quisqueyanos" only managed 2 shots (1 on target, the goal). The match was physical, with 14 fouls committed by Haiti and 17 by the Dominican Republic (who received two yellow cards). This draw allows Haiti to finish top of Group D with 10 points, ahead of the Dominican Republic (8 points), thus securing their place in the final qualifying phase of the Concacaf Championship.
