Quick visit to Haiti by António Guterres, UN Secretary-General

On Tuesday, June 16, 2026, Prime Minister Alix Didier Fils-Aimé welcomed António Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations (UN), to Toussaint Louverture International Airport. Mr. Guterres arrived by UN helicopter from Santo Domingo for a brief official visit to Haiti.

On this occasion, the Prime Minister welcomed the visit, which he described as a powerful testament to the international community's concern and solidarity with the Haitian people.

The Prime Minister received Mr. Guterres and members of his delegation at the National Palace, in the presence of members of the Haitian government.

Discussions focused primarily on the security situation, efforts to stabilize the country, the strengthening of national institutions, and the prospects for a return to democratic order through the organization of free, inclusive, and credible elections.

On this occasion, the UN Secretary-General expressed his satisfaction with the progress made by the Haitian authorities in the fight against insecurity. He commended the commitment and courage of the Haitian National Police (PNH), the Armed Forces of Haiti (FAd’H), and the Gang Supression Force (GSF), while reaffirming the United Nations' determination to continue its support for Haiti in order to consolidate security gains, sustainably improve the humanitarian situation, and contribute to a definitive resolution of the crisis.
