Nippes : Surgical caravan, nearly 200 patients already operated on free of charge

Launched nearly three weeks ago at Sainte-Thérèse Hospital in Miragoâne (https://www.icihaiti.com/en/news-47686-nippes-launch-of-the-surgical-caravan-is-a-success.html), the Surgical Caravan, initiated by the Ministry of Public Health and Population, continues to produce remarkable results in the Nippes department.

Since the caravan's launch, nearly 200 patients have already received free surgical procedures at Sainte-Thérèse Hospital in Miragoâne and at the Asile Community Referral Hospital (HCR) (https://www.icihaiti.com/en/news-47706-surgical-caravan-a-16-year-old-girl-gives-birth-to-twins.html). These results demonstrate the scale of the population's needs, but also the commitment of health authorities to concretely address citizens' expectations.

In accordance with the vision of Dr. Sinal Bertrand, Minister of Health, consultations, surgical procedures, and patient care are entirely free of charge, allowing the most vulnerable individuals to benefit from quality services without having to bear the often high costs of these services.

Today, a new milestone has been reached with the integration of the Jules Fleury Hospital in Anse-à-Veau, bringing to three the number of sites involved in this important initiative. Thanks to the efforts of the Nippes Health Directorate, headed by Dr. Esther Ceus Dumont, the hospital's operating theater, which had been out of service for some time, has been reopened to allow for free patient care under improved conditions.

The implementation of this mobile clinic benefited from the support of healthcare professionals from the central government who assisted local teams during the launch phase. Today, the Cuban Medical Brigade, alongside the department's healthcare staff, continues its work to ensure the continuity of services at the various sites.

This pilot project, initiated by Minister Bertrand, positions Nippes as a leading department in the implementation of strategies aimed at expanding access to specialized care.
