OAS : Accelerate efforts for security and stability in Haiti

Haiti's Foreign Minister Raina Forbin received Alberto Fohrig, Special Representative of the Organization of American States (OAS) to Haiti, at the Foreign Ministry this week. Mr. Fohrig was accompanied by Ms. Catherine Pognat, OAS Country Representative, during their visit to Haiti.

The Minister presented the priority actions undertaken by Prime Minister Fils-Aimé's government to restore security, strengthen state institutions, and organize free, credible, inclusive, and transparent elections. She reaffirmed the importance of youth reintegration, addressing the humanitarian crisis, and restoring constitutional order.

Discussions also focused on the implementation of the Organization of American States (OAS) roadmap for Haiti. In this regard, the Minister advocated for the establishment of an implementation timeline and reaffirmed the Haitian authorities' commitment to continuing their collaboration with the OAS to translate the agreed commitments into concrete and measurable actions for the benefit of the Haitian people. Both parties agreed on the need to accelerate efforts aimed at the lasting restoration of security and stability in the country.

The OAS representatives welcomed the progress made and reiterated the Organization's readiness to support the Haitian authorities' efforts in the areas of security, democratic governance, and the electoral process.

The meeting also provided an opportunity to discuss the role of religious leaders and civil society in promoting peace, civic responsibility, and social cohesion.
