Haiti - Economy : Monthly inflation up 3.4%

In April 2026, the monthly inflation rate stood at +3.4%, compared to +0.8% the previous month, while annual inflation reached 21.0%. This upward trend primarily reflects the impact of petroleum product prices on transportation costs and the price of several components of the consumer basket.

In April 2026, the disinflationary trend observed during the first half of the 2025-2026 fiscal year came to a halt. The pace of price increases accelerated, both on a monthly and year-over-year basis.

Main categories that increased: Transportation: +25.5%; Restaurants: +3.0%; Housing, water, gas, electricity, and other fuels: +2.8%; Food and non-alcoholic beverages : +2.2%

Annual inflation reached 21.0% (compared to 20.6% in March 2026), an increase of 0.4 percentage points. This trend marks a clear break with the decline in inflation observed between November 2025 and March 2026.

Three main categories account for the bulk of the price pressure: Food, Transportation, and Housing/Energy. They represent 94.1% of the contribution to monthly inflation and 80.1% of the contribution to annual inflation. Note that the Transportation sector alone accounted for 57.4% of monthly inflation in April 2026.

BRH Outlook (May - July 2026)

Taking into account the gradual easing of the energy shock and the decline in fuel prices observed in May 2026, the BRH forecasts a slowdown in the monthly inflation rate, but a mixed year-on-year trend.

Monthly Inflation Projections :

May 2026 : +2.6%

June 2026 : +2.0%

July 2026 : +1.7%

Year-on-Year Inflation Projections:

May 2026 : 21.6%

June 2026 : 21.7%

July 2026 : 21.3%
