Tour of the Haiti's Minister of the Environment in the South-East (video) 11/07/2026 09:57:32
Valéry Fils-Aimé, the Minister of the Environment, toured the South-East department from July 7 to 9, 2026, particularly in the municipalities of Jacmel and Belle-Anse, in order to inaugurate several major infrastructures intended to strengthen the resilience of communities to the effects of climate change, carried out as part of the Global Alliance against Climate Change Plus (GCCA+) Program. He was accompanied on this tour, among others, by Hélène Roos, Ambassador of the European Union and Charles Jean-Jacques, National Authorizing Officer in Haiti of the European Development Fund (EDF). Among these achievements are the Governance Office and the Herbarium of the Lagon des Huîtres National Natural Park, which will contribute to strengthening the management of one of the most important protected areas in the country. The Minister also inaugurated the rehabilitation of the library of the Calixte Numa Rabel High School, and the computer room equipped with 17 computers connected to the Internet and powered by an autonomous solar system, this computer room offers reliable access to electricity and digital tools. The delegation finally inaugurated the Communal Maritime Fishing Center, completely rehabilitated and equipped with a cold room running on solar energyhttps://www.icihaiti.com/en/news-47961-belle-anse-municipal-maritime-fishing-center-equipped-with-a-solar-cold-storage-room.html . This infrastructure will improve the conservation of fishery products, reduce post-harvest losses, increase the income of fishermen and support the development of the blue economy in the region.
Beyond these infrastructures, the AMCC+ Program also promoted the reconversion of 21 charcoal producers into three groups of beekeepers, through the establishment of three beekeeping stations intended for the production of organic honey. By reducing dependence on charcoal production, while creating new income opportunities, the program contributes to the protection of forests, the preservation of biodiversity and the improvement of the living conditions of the populations of Belle-Anse. In his speech, the Minister of the Environment praised the quality of this cooperation and recalled that the infrastructure inaugurated constitutes above all an investment in the service of communities. "Climate resilience is built with communities, Haitian authorities and strong partnerships." It is around this message that the mission of the Ambassador of the European Union, Hélène Roos, to Belle-Anse ended. HL/ HaitiLibre
