Temporary Protected Status (TPS) beneficiaries for Haiti, according to an updated announcement on the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) website, have had their expiration date extended to July 24, 2026. TPS beneficiaries will therefore retain their status and their A12 or C19 Work Authorization (EAD) until July 24, 2026 (unless otherwise indicated), whereas it was originally scheduled to expire on Friday, July 10.

This extension constitutes a temporary reprieve until lower courts comply with the U.S. Supreme Court decision of June 25, 2026 (https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-47849-haiti-flash-very-bad-news-the-supreme-court-authorizes-the-trump-administration-to-revoke-tps.html) authorizing the Trump administration to revoke Temporary Protected Status (TPS), which benefits hundreds of thousands of Haitians and Syrians.

This brief respite thus offers Haitians with TPS who have been living in the United States for many years additional time to consider their future. Affected Haitians are strongly advised to regularize their legal status and consult a lawyer specializing in inheritance and family law if they have not already done so.

According to the Florida Immigrant Coalition, approximately 158,000 Haitians in Florida have Temporary Protected Status (TPS), with nearly 113,000 working in healthcare. Many others work in hospitality, including hotels and airports.

Across the United States, approximately 63,000 Haitians with TPS have obtained mortgages, and many more have financed the purchase of vehicles. For many Haitians, uncertainty is a source of persistent anxiety related to the uncertainty surrounding this imminent change…
