Haiti - Security : The United States lifts restrictions that limited its cooperation with the FAd'H

Since assuming his post, Minister of Defense Mario Andrésol has been working to strengthen military cooperation with Haiti's partner countries. In this context, he met on Thursday, July 23, 2026, with the Military Attaché of the United States Embassy in Haiti to discuss prospects for cooperation in the field of defense and capacity building for the Armed Forces of Haiti (FAd'H).

This meeting took place in the context of the United States Congress's decision to lift decades-long restrictions on cooperation with the Armed Forces of Haiti (FAd'H).

The United States' decision to lift these restrictions represents a significant step forward in efforts to consolidate Haiti's international partnerships in the defense sector.

Discussions focused in particular on U.S. participation in the training of Haitian military personnel, as well as the establishment of new opportunities for professional development and skills enhancement within the FAd'H.

In this context, the possibility of granting scholarships to members of the Haitian military was also discussed. Such initiatives would contribute to strengthening the professional and technical skills of Haitian military personnel, while fostering closer and more sustainable military cooperation between the two countries.
