UN visit to assess Haiti's implementation of the sanctions regime

Last week, Mario Andrésol, Minister of Defense, received a delegation from the Department of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs of the United Nations Secretariat, composed of Ms. Melanie Ramjoue, Pedro Inchauste, and Jean A. Charar.

This visit is part of a series of consultations that the UN delegation is undertaking with the relevant Haitian authorities to assess Haiti's implementation of the sanctions regime established by the United Nations Security Council.

These consultations aim to evaluate the progress made by Haiti with regard to the main objectives defined by the United Nations Security Council, including :

• Strengthening national capacities in the areas of justice and the rule of law, in order to enable a more effective fight against armed groups and criminal activities;

• The progressive reduction of levels of violence attributable to armed groups and criminal networks, including intentional homicides, kidnappings, and acts of sexual violence;

• The gradual reduction of activities related to arms trafficking and diversion, as well as the associated illicit financial flows, notably through an increase in the number of seizures and the quantities of weapons seized.

This assessment mission is being conducted in accordance with the provisions of United Nations Security Council resolution 2794 (2025), which mandates the Secretary-General, in close consultation with the Panel of Experts, to assess progress made towards achieving the key objectives set out in the resolution.
