Haiti - Politic : Reactions of Government to the accusations of Mirlande Manigat

Following the statements of Mrs. Manigat this past weekend, accusing the Government for its choice of the city of Les Cayes for the holding of national carnival, on the mafioso origin of its funding and the poor quality of our Carnival, the Office of the Prime Minister in a statement reacted strongly to these "unjustified statements".

"The Communication Office of the Prime Minister is shocked of unjustified statements of the Secretary General of RDNP against the choice of the city of Les Cayes for Organization of festivities of carnival of 2012.

The government vehemently rejects the accusations of corruption and money laundering of the former presidential candidate. These charges, in addition to seeking deliberately to undermine the government, seeking to undermine the efforts being made, for some time, by the new administration to project a new image of Haiti, our country at all. The Prime Minister wishes to assure the Haitian people as a whole of his devotion to do a sound and efficient management of public funds.

By her statements, Mrs. Mirlande H. Manigat seeks simply to boycott the beautiful campaign that is made for the Great South whose the artistic and tourist treasures have remained dormant for too long in ignorance of our successive leaders and aspirants to the highest public service. It is amazing that a former postulant to the highest office of this country can argue against the deconcentration and decentralization, to oppose with such obstinacy and bad faith to an enhancement program of Haitian provinces, who organize in turn, cultural and tourist activities, that highlight the ingenuity of their people and their immense potential.

The carnival, popular celebration by excellence, is the largest showcase of cultural and artistic exhibition of Haiti. So the government is disposed to all the efforts and sacrifices to make of this great first in Les Cayes a success."
