This is the first time in history, that the National Canaval will take place outside the capital Port-au-Prince. This year, it is the city of Les Cayes which was chosen to host this important national cultural event from February 19 to 20, 2012.

Nearly 40 kings and queens, 13 music floats, 11 allegorical floats, more than 2,000 figurants, 12 walking bands disguised (11 from Les Cayes and a group of Port-au-Prince) and dance troupes will take part in the parade to ensure a colorful spectacle and in music to the delight of some 500.000 participants expected for the festivities "We want that every region emphasize its particularity [...] These different groups will present choreography highlighting the flora, fauna and the environment. These performances will also include categories such as peasants and workers declared Josette Darguste, Representative of Ministry of Culture within the organizing committee of the Carnival.

All musical trends will be featured in this carnival which is already announced as exceptional, with the presence, among other of : Djakout Mizik, Carimi, Ram, Racine Mapou, T-vice, Kreyòl la, Mass Compas, Baricad Crew, G7, Boukman Ekperyans, RockFam, Freedom and the Les Mélomanes. "First you will have a parade of security forces followed by ambulances, cyclists... The first table it will be a tribute to our island and to the 17 advertisers who will represent the 17 communes of Les Cayes [...] the launch of the parade will be held at 2 o'clock. At noon you will have the first siren, at 1:00 pm the second and third siren at 2:00 pm (Haiti time] it will be the launch of the Carnival..." stated Ms. Darguste. The presidential family and members of the government is arrived yesterday Saturday and stay in a hotel in Port-Salut.
