Haiti - Economy : The Reserve Bank of Dominican Republic wants to open a branch in Port-au-Prince

A delegation of the Reserve Bank of Dominican Republic (BanReservas) led by Vicente Bengoa Albizu, its Director General, met last week at the headquarters of the BRH (Bank of the Republic of Haiti) the Haitian monetary authorities to respond to efforts initiated two years ago, to install a branch of the Dominican bank in the capital Port-au-Prince.

Was present at this meeting, Charles Castel, the Governor of the BRH, Charles Robinson, Superintendent, Michele Delerme, lawyer, Georgette Jean-Louis, member of the Board of the BRH. The Dominican delegation was composed of Silié Ruben Valdez, Ambassador of the Dominican Republic accredited in Haiti, Gloria Aquino, Financial Advisor, Claudio Peguero, Director General of the security and Sarah Marie Schettini, Financial Analyst of BanReservas.

The Dominican Ambassador Rubén Silié has informed that the Haitian monetary authorities have reiterated at the meeting, their interest to proceed with the opening of this financial institution. All documents and the required assessments are made and it remains only the formal authorization of Haitian government to move forward with this project.

The Director General of BanReservas stressed that this branch in Port-au-Prince will facilitate financial transactions, often involving large sums of money between entrepreneurs of both countries. Recalling for example that BanReservas, located in the border region had made ​​last year for 74 million U.S. dollars and 25 million € transactions "With the office of the Reserve Bank in Port-au-Prince, the money may be transferred directly by the bank like f the transaction was done in the Dominican Republic," stating that the opening of this Dominican bank institution in Haiti, will help promote trade between the two nations.

Besides helping to reduce costs and risks for entrepreneurs and businessmen of both countries, the Dominican Bank will offer a money remittance service for the Haitian students living in the Dominican Republic, which today must pass through Miami, after having made a deposit in Haiti...
