Haiti - Agriculture : 82 technicians Dominicans and Haitians attended an advanced course

A group of 82 technicians from Haiti and the Dominican Republic attended an advanced course on agricultural quarantine, pests and diseases [in crops and livestock]. This training was sponsored by several international organizations including the Regional International Organization for Animal Health (OIRSA) and the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

This workshop-training given at the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD) is one of the measures adopted by the agricultural authorities of both countries to prevent entry of pests and diseases at ports and airports, especially at the borders of Haiti and of the Dominican Republic.

Among the topics discussed, concerning the crops : the threats against new pests and the analysis of specific cases of disease and at the level of livestock, the new threats of disease and specific analysis in cattle and pigs and more generally for others livestock.

The Ministry of Agriculture of the Dominican Republic, has several joint programs with Haiti. Thus, in this context, several Dominicans students and professors have recently undergone a training in Haiti in Cap Haitien on the pineapple plantation and the production of hydroponic crops.
