Haiti - Social : The respect for the rights of the child, a step towards the reconstruction of Haiti

The organization "Cercle Amis des enfants en situation difficile" (CASED) commemorated the National Day of the Child in Jacmel this Sunday, June 10 under the theme "The respect for the rights of the child, a step towards the reconstruction of Haiti." A set of activities was organized Saturday afternoon at the premises of the institution : training, chat and others for children supervised by the CASED.

The National Day of the Child Rights was an opportunity for the CASED, in partnership with the National Prison Administration of Jacmel, particularly the section responsible for the management of minors in conflict with the law and the correctional unit of the Minustah of Jacmel to make a little chat with the 13 minors detained in the civil prison of Jacmel.

This activity was aimed on the one hand, to celebrate in a special way the National Day of the child with incarcerated juveniles, and secondly, to Me Lauture Rémus, coordinator of CASED to raise awareness among juvenile prisoners of their various rights and duties vis-à-vis the society.

The head of CASED has indicated that on the 13 minors who are currently incarcerated two of them were convicted, while the 11 others remained in pretrial detention, eagerly awaiting a court decision...

At this situation Lauture Rémus, has promised to carry out procedures with the relevant authorities, particularly the Institute of Welfare and Research (IBESR) to address this problem.

Should be noted that in this activity, children denounced their subhuman living conditions at the prison, several of them have strongly criticized the judicial authorities of the region because they have already spent over a year waiting for a court decision on their case.
