Haiti - Security : «We have no intention to surrender our weapons»

The former Senator Youri Latortue, informed Thursday, that the issue of demobilized former military and of men in fatigues from various origins, had been discussed Monday during the meeting of Supreme Council of National Police (CSPN).

He indicated that authorities were awaiting the decisions of justice, for a fifty "former military" arrested on May 18-19 and who are currently in custody. Adding that the authorities intended to recover the weapons in possession of these individuals during this time, the compensation program of [true] demobilized former soldiers, continued.

For his part, Marcel Daniel called by his men "Commander Moïse", who led a group of men who illegally occupied the premises of the Ministry of Agriculture in Cap-Haitien (since evacuated), ruled out any possibility of lay down ou surrender their weapons. "We have no intention to surrender our weapons". Moreover, wishing to put an end to rumors, he wanted to clarify that he was not in hiding and that he was working to an address known by all.

He again requested to the President Martelly not to bow to pressure from some members of the international community, who are opposed to the return of the army, adding that after the end of the school year "a response will be given to the international community [...] we will soon launch an operation to break the chains that paralyze the Head of State... [?]"
