Haiti - Social : 65 million gourdes available for the Carnival of Flowers

Port-au-Prince is preparing for the Carnival of Flowers to be held on 29, 30 and 31 July. Ady Jean Gardy, the Minister of Communications, declared Wednesday that steps are being taken so that the Carnival of Flowers, of Port-au-Prince is a success. He indicated in the margin of the Rio+20 Summit, currently taking place in Brazil, the President Martelly should talk to different players involved in the organization of the Carnival of Rio, and some of them could coming soon in Haiti.

He stated that a budget of 65 million gourdes is already available for the organization of this carnival which should also be supported by the business sector and representatives of the friends of Haiti, including Brazil, Colombia and Dominican Republic.

Regarding those who think that this money would be better spent in the improvement of living conditions of citizens, the Minister Jean Gardy explained that in Brazil, football and Carnival were two major sources of income and that did not see why, Haiti would be deprived of these economic impacts.
