The Office of the Secretary of State for Integration of Persons with Disabilities (BSEIPH) and the Brazilian cooperation in Haiti, through its Secretariat for Human Rights, have organized recently at the Museum of Haitian National Pantheon, a training seminar of five days, around the theme "the problem of social integration of disabled people", intended for executives of various entities of government in order to promote the rights of disabled people.

Executives of the public administration from the ten departments, including of Ministries of Education, Public Health, Public Works, Status of Women and the Directorate of Civil Protection, came together to share their experiences. The objective of this seminar was to educate these executives on the issues related to disability issues, strengthen their capacity to promote the rights of these persons as part of the new law on the integration of disabled people.

According to Josué Joseph, responsible for training at BSEIPH, there would be in Haiti, nearly 1 million people living with a disability [physical, sensory or mental] "Many of these people contribute to their socio-economic development and to that of their families, but their role is often ignored and is not considered."

Organised as part of a series of awareness activities of the Office of the Secretary of State for Integration of Persons with Disabilities (BSEIPH), this initiative is a way to encourage the emergence of a dynamic inclusive and the inclusion of disability within the development activities. It also aims to develop the abilities of disabled people for a better consideration of needs of the latter and for the assertion of their rights. It is planned to hold several similar seminars in Port-au-Prince in the coming months. These trainings will be designed to members of associations working in the field of disability, to executives in the private sector, of the civil society, school principals and members of the press from different corners of the country.
