Haiti - Justice : Release of two Americans jailed in Haiti 07/07/2012 09:53:00
Friday, following the hearing at the courthouse of Port-au-Prince, with Judge Bredy Fabien, the two Americans : Jason William Petrie (aka Zeke), 39, from Barberton [Ohio] and Steven Parker Shaw, 57, from Dighton [Massachusetts], who had been arrested, Friday, May 18 during a parade of people in combat fatigues and jailed for nearly two months, were released by court order. "You know what, it's a beautiful thing to be free — that's what I can tell you," declared Petrie. Recall that at the time Réginald Delva, State Secretary for Security had indicated that these two men were charged with conspiracy and to have provided logistical support to armed individuals. Charges that were quickly rejected giving rise to new charges, this time of conspiracy and attempted murder... Judge Bredy Fabien explained in its decision that the charges against these two Americans, were dropped because of insufficient evidence. However, the judge indicated, he was a conditional release and that these two persons should remain available to the court for further questioning if necessary. See also : HL/ HaitiLibre
