Haiti - Social : Wage increase, the Government will act

After the declarations of July 10, of Marie Carmelle Jean Marie, the Minister of Economy and Finance, which defended the Finance Bill 2012-2013 before the Commission Economy and Finance of the House of Deputies, where she had said " "that despite the government's social sensitivity," the latter do not have the means to increase the salaries of police officers and teachers, the Prime Minister, Laurent Lamothe, now announces that measures will be taken to increase the income of police officers and teachers...

"...the Government seeks the welfare of the population and also seeks to encourage the executives who work hard in difficult conditions. For this, we decided to look at the situation of teachers and police officers.

We make analyzes, to increase the income of teachers. As soon as the law on the establishment, organization and functioning of the National Fund for Education (FNE) that we have tabled in Parliament, will be voted, we will be able to increase the incomes of all the teachers [...] we are working hard with the Parliament, so that this law be voted as quickly as possible, in order to increase the salaries of teachers before school starts [...]

For police officers, we also study ways to increase their income. Within a week we will have the exact amount, that will benefit both for our police officers, who work in conditions [...] who are doing that I would call heroic. I visited several police stations, I spoke with several police officers and when they told us their living conditions, we could not stay sat with arms crossed and do nothing. So, he President Martelly, asked us to take this into consideration, what we did.

I can already announce that there are measures that will be taken to increase the income of police officers and teachers.

I take this opportunity to remember that the FNE, will allow us to have enough income to send more children to school, buy more buses, have school canteens and to feed more children, to work on the construction of schools, improving the quality of education, o really, these are things that will be highly beneficial for Haiti [...]"
