Haiti - Agriculture : Livestock Identification and control of slaughter

Tuesday, the Ministry of Agriculture has organized a workshop to validate a proposal for establishing a system of cattle identification and control of slaughter in Haiti. This work session was headed by Dr. Michel Chancy, Secretary of State for Animal Production.

Animal identification, constitutes throughout the world, an important aspect in the food system due to the fact that it serves to build trust among consumers. In recent years, the livestock production system in Haiti is facing serious problems: theft of livestock, lack of control of animal movement and poor organization of the slaughter, caused particularly by the absence of a system of sanitary inspection.

The Ministry of Agriculture, in collaboration with the Ministries of Interior and Territorial Communities, Justice, Commerce and Public Health, decided to implement throughout the country, a system of identification and of registration of livestock and also to restore the control of the slaughter and sanitary inspection.

hese provisions should be as simple as possible, so that they can adapt to the conditions and existing farming systems in the country.
