Greens Farms Academy (GFA) has made a significant contribution to the fight against illiteracy in Haiti. Under the guidance of Dianne Schlosser, Director of Information Services at GFA, has donated 50 renovated laptop computers to Haitian Educational Initiatives (HEI), a non-profit educational foundation that operates in Jacmel, Haiti. The computers will be used in two scholarship and after school programs in the Jacmel area.

Susan Whitcomb, founder and President of HEI, explains the significance of Greens Farms Academy's gift "Haitian adults and children desperately need education and job skills to benefit from any development that comes to Haiti [...] GFA's contribution will help improve literacy and provide job training to children and adults in the community [...]"

Ms. Schlosser declared "We can share what we have at GFA with Haiti's children helping them to overcome some of the obstacles that they encounter. GFA's World Perspective Program encourages cross-cultural connections so sharing laptops with Haiti's children complements the mission."

HEI offers scholarships to 75 children who would otherwise have no hope of enrolling in school. The scholarships include tuition fees, uniforms, books and school supplies. HEI also runs an after school tutoring program for 80 children in central Jacmel. Job skills are also offered to 40 students in Cayes-Jacmel, a semi-rural district outside the city. These students are learning local crafts and needlework in addition to computer literacy.
