Haiti - Economy : The increase in salaries of teachers and police, depends on the Senate

After 5 weeks of analysis of the draft budget of 131 billion gourdes, of government of Laurent Lamothe for the 2012-2013 fiscal year, the deputies have voted Friday evening, unanimously in favor of this draft budget. The deputies have reallocated in the draft submitted, 2 billion gourdes, to be able to grant a salary increase of 20% for teachers of first and second cycle and 15% for police officers.

The Deputy Rodon Bien Aimé, President of the Finance Commission of the Lower House stated "...we congratulate our colleagues in the House who mobilized [...] to give that vote favorably and sanction the budget [...] in the Ministry of National Education, there are reorganization that have been made​​, we did not withdraw money from the Ministry nor took money from outside to put it in the Ministry. There is a section where there were 8 billion gourdes, we have disaffected of this Section 1 billion gourdes, which will enable all teachers, who were in the system and who have not received their salaries, to be paid, and at the same time, the rest will be used to increase the salaries of teachers of first and second cycle, these people will have a 20% increase [...]

For the National Police, we are going in the section, public debt and other public assistance, then we have disaffected 1 billion gourdes, and we have give to the national police [...] a 15% increase for officers [...]"

The draft budget law will be transmitted this week to the Senate. The Deputy Rodon Bien-Aimé hope that the Senators will favorably sanction this draft budget. Recall that the Finance Bill, must be unanimously approved by both Houses. The Senate has until September 30, 2012 to decide.
