Haiti - Politic : The President Martelly canceled his trip to Japan (Message)

Message of President Michel Martelly :

"Haitian people, the country of Haiti is now under the threat of ISAAC, on this occasion, I asks to all Haitians, to show solidarity, to give the union the first place. ISAAC storm comes upon us with force, with plenty of rain and wind [...] a lot of damage can be done.

I ask you to give priority to the sick, the elderly, children, pregnant women and people with disabilities, helping them if they are in trouble. People living in tents are a priority for the Presidency, the Government with the Civil Protection 1400 temporary shelters across the country, who are ready to receive you with respect and dignity. Listen the radios, listen the messages [...] and comply with all instructions [...]

I am not able, and I have no right to forget you. I asked the competent authorities to give you special attention, I know how you feel in those moments, I know your concerns, [...] you've proven that you can show solidarity in difficult times, today, I know that together we will cross this bad moment.

The authorities have assured me that good provisions have been taken to protect the lives of people who are most at risk [...] civil protection officers, police officers, coastguards, firefighters with all other authorities, remain mobilized 24/24 to answer your calls.

There are two emergency phone numbers *300 and 177 and you have the right to call at any time if you have any problems or if you are in trouble [...]

The message that I want to send to every Haitian in this moment, is that it must show responsibility and solidarity. We continue to believe that if you stay alert, you listen and that you do everything asked by the he authorities concerned, the storm ISAAC will pass, without leaving a bitter taste in the mouth of the Haitian people.

We will remain mobilized to respond to all emergencies, shouldering each other, watching over each other, the Government, myself and the Presidency we are with you, this is why, in this important moment, I decided to cancel the visit that I was going to do on invitation of the Japanese government [...] The President will be with you and will watch over you.

'Prekosyon pa kapon', God bless you, the victory is for the people.

Thank you"
