Haiti - Tourism : Important discussions and reflections on the tourism development

Stéphanie Balmir Villedrouin, the Minister of Tourism, had a meeting at the Ministry, with representatives of diplomatic missions of Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Cuba, Mexico, the Bahamas, Panama, of the Dominican Republic, of Venezuela and Spain [because of the special relationship that it maintains with some countries in Latin America].

During this meeting of discussions and reflections on the tourism development, the Minister has presented the main lines of its policy based primarily on vocational and continuing training, the regulation, the development and promotion of tourism and presented various projects of the Ministry in order to obtain of collaboration with these countries.

The Minister believes that the training can help to curb the import of labor and promote job creation in Haiti. Strategic agreements were signed, in this sense, with foreign institutions including the Institute of Tourism and Hospitality of Quebec and the Montmorency College. Stéphanie Balmir Villedrouin focused on the regulation of the tourism sector stressing that the regulatory framework is now obsolete or nonexisten

As an example of this collaboration latino-american and Caribbean, the Ministry had already reached an agreement with Mexico as part of a development plan of some tourist sites in the country. Another agreement will be signed in September with Ecuador for collaboration in the Agro-tourism, the legislation and tourism promotion.

Representatives of these diplomatic missions have positively appreciated this meeting and promised to encourage their countries to contribute in the various fields of action of tourism development in Haiti.

Meetings will be held with other countries within the framework of the determination of Ministry to develop the tourism sector in Haiti.
