Haiti - Education : 4,000 scholarships for the next school year

The Prime Minister, Laurent Lamothe, made a courtesy visit to the Lycée Toussaint Louverture, this Friday, August 31, where he among other things, distributed scholarships to many young people.

4,000, scholarships will be awarded to municipalities in the department of the West [200 by town], in the context of the next school year. This initiative aims primarily to relieve the parents who usually confront many difficulties to cope with school obligations.

During this visit, the Head of Government took the opportunity to promise his support to a program of "Prefac" realized in the school premises, by providing food and educational materials to participants, until the end of this activity on September 11, 2012.

Through the 'Bureau d'études de jeunesse' of the Primature, the Prime Minister who intends to accompany students in their studies, is committed to working with other countries to find training opportunities for the benefit of young people. Mr. Lamothe noted that good training is the best way for our youth to contribute to the development of their country.

The Head of Government, who received on this occasion many gifts from schoolchildren, has also announced the reconstruction of the building of the Lycée Toussaint Louverture and that of the Lycée Alexandre Pétion, who had been severely damaged by the earthquake of January 2010.

The Prime Minister is convinced, that education is and remains the cornerstone of change advocated by his administration and is committed, together with the President of the Republic, to redouble their efforts to increase the educational offer across the country.
