Haiti - Reconstruction : India handing over a check $5 million to the Haitian State

Monday, September 3, the President Michel Martelly, received the National Palace, the Indian Ambassador to Haiti, with residence in Cuba, Mr. Shri C. Rajasekhar. The possibility to cooperate in the fields of agriculture, housing, education and family planning was, among others, at the center of discussions.

A check of U.S. $ 5 million, was officially handed over to the Haitian government for the construction of 300 houses. The President Martelly, has ensured that these houses will be intended to the most vulnerable and those who are still living in tents. In the presence, among others, of Pierre Richard Casimir, the Foreign Minister, the President Martelly, on behalf of the Haitian people, thanked the Indian Government for the donation.

In addition, the Head of State, in its desire to value the local products, discussed with Ambassador Rajasekhar, of the possibility that the Indian Government provides non-reciprocal preferential access to the export of Haitian products to India.

He was also considered an official visit in India of President Martelly which has reiterated his willingness to seek opportunities for Haitians within the framework of relations between Haiti and its friendly countries.
