Haiti - Social : Project 16/6, more than 3,500 people rehoused

As part of the fight against social exclusion and to respect the promises of the Head of State, 2,500 people who were living under tents at Parc Sainte Thérèse in Petion-ville and 1.170 others who were in the National School "République du Guatemala", was rehoused, Friday 7 and Saturday, September 8.

These families, who were victims of the earthquake of January 2010, have been rehoused in their original neighborhood under the Project 16/6, through which thousands of other families, were able to leave public spaces such as the Champ-de-Mars, the Places Saint-Pierre and Boyer to Pétion-ville and the Gymnasium Vincent. This operation, brings to 255.000 the number of displaced persons who have been rehoused by the Haitian Government.

The Prime Minister, Laurent Lamothe, believes it is fundamental that all displaced persons can resume the normal course of their existence and engaged in this sense, within the framework of the fight against extreme poverty, to pursue, together with the President Martelly, the process of resettlement of displaced persons in respect of their rights and in the dignity.
