Haiti - Justice : The FBH will not participate in the reopening ceremony of the judicial work

The Bars Federation of Haiti (FBH) in accordance with point 4 of the resolution of the Assembly of Bar Presidents, adopted at the retreat of Ouanga bay, in mid-September, recommends to the various Bars and lawyers of Haiti, not to participate in the official ceremony of reopening of the judicial work, organized under the chairmanship of Judge Anel Alexis Joseph, scheduled for Monday 1 October 2012.

In a statement signed by Me Carlos Hercules, the President of the FBH states that "the dependency manifests that shown the Magistrate Anel Alexis Joseph, by designating arbitrarily and illegally three (3) members supposed to represent the Superior Council of the Judiciary (CSPJ) to the Permanent Electoral Council, does not constitute only a violation of constitutional provisions guaranteeing the principle of separation of powers and a transgression of the law creating the CSPJ, but also an affront to all Lawyers grouped within the Bars Federation of Haiti.

Faced with this situation, the Bars Federation of Haiti is obliged to refuse to condone the unacceptable and is therefore constraint not to participate in the official ceremony of reopening of judicial work organized under presidency of Judge Anel Alexis Joseph.

The Bars Federation of Haiti, while reaffirming its determination to work for the protection of rights and freedoms, to ensure the protection of public and to contribute to the effective independence of the judiciary, wishes a Good Judicial Year to the Lawyers, Judges and court staff of the country !"
