Haiti - Social : Martelly calls for the respect of children's rights

The President of the Republic, Michel Martelly, has a special thought for the children of Haiti, this Tuesday, November 20 marking the celebration of the International Day of Children's Rights. On this occasion, the Head of State, calling for the respect of children's rights, reaffirms his determination to struggle to enable them to fully enjoy their basic rights including : right to health, right to education, right to protection, the right to culture, the right to a harmonious development, etc...

"We must invest more in the education of our children. Because, better they are educated and supervised, the better they can serve their country with pride and skill," declared the Head of State, who, in is political vision relies heavily on the education for a better tomorrow in Haiti.

Indeed, thanks to the efforts of President Martelly in the field of education in particular, more than 1 million 287 thousand children had access to free education in less than two years. The efforts are multiplied daily to strengthen the Universal Schooling Program Free and Compulsory (PSUGO).

In addition, the Administration Martelly-Lamothe, with country programs of social assistance continues to help and assist fathers and mothers so that they can take care of their children properly. The struggle continues for the basic needs of the population are met with respect and dignity.

"I am unable and I'll never be able to reconcile myself to the idea, of accepting this painful observation, that there is still in this country, fathers and mothers rising in the morning, without any hope of feeding during the day, their children," said President Martelly, at the first conference on extreme poverty, organised last November 6 by the Office of the Minister Responsible for Human Rights and the Fight Against Poverty under the theme "Think and fight against extreme poverty in Haiti".

In a report published in 2004, UNICEF reported that more than 1 billion children on earth, more than half suffer extreme deprivation associated with poverty, war and AIDS.

In Haiti, the President is aware of the difficult conditions in which Haitian families living in general and children in particular, in this sense, renews its commitment and determination to improve these conditions, calling for the cooperation of everyone.
