Haiti - Justice : Arrests of cattle thieves

Me Jean Renel Sanon, the Minister of Justice deplores the increase of theft of livestock in the rural world Haitian, ollowing numerous cases recorded in various parts of the country, particularly in the North, the Minister reminds the offenders, that this practice will be punished with the utmost rigor and that instructions have been passed to the Heads of prosecution in the various jurisdictions of the country, in order to repress these theft, which constitute a violation of private property.

The municipalities of Milot, Limonade, of Quartier Morin and the Plaine du Nord are the most affected by this practice. Indeed, from Friday 16 to Monday, November 19, 2012 at least a dozenof alleged thieves of cattle, were arrested, bringing to 42 the number of persons prosecuted by the judicial authorities in the north.

In a statement, the Ministry of Justice and Public Security "expresses its solidarity to livestock farmers in particular and to the farmers in general and reiterates his firm commitment to guarantee a better security climate conducive to their activities. The Ministry calls for vigilance of the entire population and invites the citizens to collaborate with local judicial authorities in order to help identify and prosecute any individuals engaged in such malpractices, infringing an very important sector of the national economy."
