Haiti - Canada : Warning for Canadian Travellers going to Jérémie...

For a week, a tense situation reign in Jérémie here the population manifests with violence, for the resumption of construction work of a road section of 70 kilometers, started by the Brazilian firm OAS and whose contract has been canceled.

The promises of the Minister of Public Works, Jacques Rousseau, of an early resumption of this important regional project, were not enough to calm the population...

Friday, violent clashes with the police, including officers of the Intervention and Maintenance of Order Corps (CIMO) came as reinforcements from the capital, have made at least 1 dead and 3 injured in protesters and wounded several others among security forces. Barricades inflamed and throwing stones, paralyzed all activities of the city, the house of the Government Commissioner was vandalized and that of her mother burned in retaliation...

Monday, the demonstrations have resumed in Jérémie and new burning barricades erected. Schools, public institutions and banks remained closed while public transport was paralyzed.
