Thursday, during the ceremony of laying the first stone of the new Legislative Palace, the Executive Director of the Unit of Housing Construction and of Public Buildings (UCLBP), explained that the new Legislative Palace with an area of ​​3.600 m2, will be composed of two buildings.

The main building, horizontal, of 4 levels, will include 3 large sitting rooms for the 2 Chambers and the National Assembly, the Library of Parliament, the press rooms and several meeting rooms for the Parliamentary Committees and will have a parking for 94 vehicles.

The second building, which is presented under the form of a tower of 9 levels, equipped with 4 main elevators, a freight elevator and emergency staircase, will host the individual offices of 30 senators and 99 deputies, including their secretariats, waiting rooms, meeting rooms, space for clerks, toilets, kitchens and a parking of several levels with a capacity of 240 vehicles.

"This parliament will be more functional and welcoming [...] we will have certainly the most beautiful Parliament of the Caribbean," declared the Prime Minister, Laurent Lamothe, who did not hide his pride regarding the future Parliament, which will according to him "project an image of modernity," and also honor the memory of parliamentarians disappeared during the January 2010 earthquake.
