Haiti - Education : Back to School, Monday, January 7

Charles Levelt Joseph, Director General of the Ministry of National Education and Vocational Training, indicated that "[...] back to school has been set at 7 January 2013, that is to say Monday [...] there is no doubt at this level, nothing has been changed [...] even more, that with the postponement of the entry of September in October, we lost school days, so our interest is to try to catch up as much as possible, as well as capable these days of class [...]

The Program of Universal Schooling Free and Compulsory (PSUGO) evolves gradually. Last year we started with, for some department, the children 6 to 12 years, ho had never been to school and we also took the children of first-year fundamental in the departments of West and Artibonite.

This year for the West and Artibonite, we made obligation to attend school to children from 6 to 12 years who have never attended school [...] we have identified about 94.000, so the latter came to school, while those who were in the 1st year, last year, are now in second year.

This means that this year, we cover the whole country, for children 9 to 12 years, who had never attended school, except the case of children in the streets, these are cases that we manage [...] that we begin to approach, and gradually, we will move forward with them, with the other ministries concerned, because these children are of particular cases and there are many ministries that are concerned about their presence on the street..."
