Haiti - Education : 100 young people from the Croix-des-Bouquets, will join the School of Hope

Last week, the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Civic Action (MJSAC) organized the second phase of the competition for admission to the School of Hope (École de l'Espoir), at Ranch of the Croix-des-Bouquets in order to compose the second promotion of this vocational school in the professional trades of : auto mechanics, masonry, carpentry and computer.

A jury composed of executives of the Directorate of Youth and of the Insertion of MJSAC and of minister's office interviewed during 2 days 180 young people originating from Croix des Bouquets and certain surrounding areas, which have successfully completed the first stage of the recruitment process which took place in early March. 100 of them will be selected to receive training for 6 months in one of the courses offered.

"We interviewed many of these young people and they are very intelligent. We conducted this second phase in order to retain the best 100 young people (girls or boys) able to to serve their communities [...] We are in our second promotion and this year young people are even more motivated and determined to fight, in order to find a place in our school. A lot of money has been invested by the Public Investment Program, to help us to continue this initiative..." declared Woodly Simon, Director of Youth and Integration.

Werline Joseph, one of the participants in the final phase of the competition, thanking Magalie Racine, the Minister of Youth, for this opportunity stated that it was "a great initiative of MJSAC" to establish this school and she said hoped that the responsible, will include other options in order to attract more young people of Croix-des-Bouquets.

The School of Hope (École de l'Espoir), commonly known as Vocational School Mikael Sylvestre, the name of the former French international footballer, Mikaël Silvestre, 33, defender at the club Werder Brême which has personally financed 50% of this project, is a vocational training center part of MJSAC, whose purpose is to promote the integration of young people into the labor market. During and after the training, the Ministry will put at the disposition of young learners a logistical support and funds for the financing of micro enterprises.
