Haiti - Economy : Strengthening of South-South relations

Thursday, as part of his official visit to the United States [17 to 23 April], the Prime Minister, Laurent Lamothe, intervening at the Americas-Africa Business Forum, held at the headquarters of the Organization of American States (OAS) in Washington, DC., stressed the importance of improving investment and trade relations between the Caribbean, Latin America and Africa to strengthen "South-South" trade. "Haiti is the African presence in the Caribbean," declared the Prime Minister to the diplomats, government officials and entrepreneurs from the Americas and Africa who took part in the event. Recalling the cooperation agreements reached in various fields between his country and the Ivory Coast, adding that the goal is to expand this type of agreement to other African countries.

The Prime Minister Lamothe, who was introduced to the audience by the Assistant Secretary General of the OAS, Albert Ramdin, said his country should take advantage of its proximity to the United States and the trade agreement it has with the North American country to strengthen its relations with other nations.

Recall that the Americas Africa Business Forum is co-organized by the OAS and the government of Trinidad and Tobago. The Secretary General of the OAS, José Miguel Insulza; Ambassador Ramdin; and the Secretary General of the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA), Sindoso Ngwenya all took part in the opening of the event.
