Haiti - Education : South Korea gave $2MM

Friday was signed a memorandum of agreement for a donation of 2 million U.S. dollars for the purchase of 50 school bus on a two-year period between the Haitian Government, represented by Wilson Laleau the Minister of Economy and Finance, accompanied by Castro Arboite Director of the school bus company "Dignité" and of a representative of the Ministry of Planning and External Cooperation and the Government of South Korea, represented by Mr. Sae Chul OH, Chief Representative of KOICA in Haiti, accompanied by a south Korean delegation.

The Minister Laleau indicated that this project of the Korean International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), will improve transit service within the ten departments and indicated that under the agreement, South Korean experts will proceed to the training of Haitian technicians for mechanical maintenance of these buses.

Mr. Sae Chul OH, said that his Government had taken this decision to support the Haitian government in the key area of education, the foundation of the development of any society.

For his part, the Director of the "Dignité" Bus Company believes that the addition of these 50 additional buses, to the 250 already in operation, will allow to offer and effectively expand the school transport service throughout the territory.
