Haiti - Reconstruction : Delivery of the first keys of housing project of Morne à Cabris

Thursday, the President Michel Martelly, proceeded, to the symbolic delivery of keys to eight families of the 120 beneficiaries of the first phase of construction of 3,000 rental housing in Morne à Cabris (Croix-des-Bouquets).

This social project, which started in December 2011, under the guidance of the Unit for Housing Construction and Public Buildings (UCLBP), is part of the interventions of the administration Martelly-Lamothe to assist the most vulnerable social groups.

"The project of Morne à Cabris, although it is not the only solution to the housing problem is a good example regarding my vision to develop this sector in Haiti. More than 15,000 people will live in this village. It is very important that you build a fraternal community, stable and inclusive. I will accompany you in this direction," declared the Head of State to the beneficiaries.

The President Martelly has baptized this new community "Village Lumane Casimir" in memory of this native of Gonaives, which was returned to Port-au-Prince in search of a better life. Her voice and guitar were his only assets. Despite her talent and courage, she died poor and tuberculosis, in suffering. Because she had not been supervised and supported by the state. "This would not happen under my administration," indicated the Head of State.

"The idea is not only to build housing units, but also to build a community proud of his village," said for his part, Mr. Harry Adam, head of UCLBP. To date, 1,000 units have been completed. 550 houses and 450 apartments will be delivered. This village of 3,000 total housing has a primary school, a police station and a fire department. A public market, a sports field and a mini-industrial park will also be built in [Phase II].

Each housing unit has two bedrooms, a dining room, a bathroom including a toilet, shower and sink. The kitchen has a sink and gas stove 2 fireplaces. Mains water and electricity are available on site. Each tenant must pay 1,500 gourdes per month. The site administration will be handled by a management unit.

The full completion of the village Lumane Casimir is scheduled for early 2015.
