Haiti - Security : Flag Day, former soldiers have marched

Saturday, while the government commemorated the 210 years since the creation of the Haitian flag, dozens of former soldiers, some very old, cheered on by hundreds of onlookers gathered on their way, marched in uniform in the town of Port -au-Prince to demand the departure of the Minustah and the restoration of the armed forces disbanded by President Jean-Bertrand Aristide in 1994 "The Flag Day, is the feast of the army. We demonstrate for the sovereignty of Haiti," explained one of the protesters, while another, a former sergeant of FAD'H declared "We demand categorically the departure of the Minustah hich exploits the country." No incidents have been reported.

About 50 kilometers from the event, the President Martelly has called for national unity "Haitian and Haitian, let us unite, let us unite, tightening our rank under this banner, this banner floating to remind the world that we are the Nation of Liberty. Together we will advance towards this Haiti of progress and social justice that we want to see emerge and prevail [...] the best expression of our respect for the flag can only be translated by the contribution of each to create a climate of social and political calm in order to engage the country in the new routes."
