Tuesday, in the presence of Luis Miguel Carrilho, Police Commissioner of the United Nations, 5 Canadian police of UN Police in Haiti (UNPOL), offered to the Divisional Commissioner Joseph Jean-Marie Wagnac, Commandant of the Coast Guard of the National Police of Haiti (PNH), a navigation simulator to facilitate the transition from theory to practice. It is noted that this is a personal initiative of the police officers who finance with their own funds, this project, which took more than four months of preparation.

To achieve to create this navigation simulator, 5 Canadian police officers have aquired a computer program that they later changed in nautical simulator. They also have coupled a computer console to that of a ship of type "Sea Ark" belonging to the Haitian Coast Guard.

"With this instrument the students may already have the sensation of a real boat," says François Dubeau, Chief designer of this project, by scrolling on the screen varied scenes where sea state evolves according to weather changes, thus affecting navigation. The simulator consists of a computer, a console with a keyboard, joysticks, steering wheel and a projector that returns on a wall opposite the pilot of this boat "virtual" the images from the computer.

With the simulator "students can also know the international principles relating to navigation," explained Carl-Eric Lippke, Co-designer of the device "These are the same maneuvers performed in a virtual way that are perform in the real," saying it will now be easier for students to pass to the practice phase itself, the simulator having been prepared based on the vessels used by the Haitian Coast Guard.

Jean Hebert St Louis, Coast Guard within the PNH declared "The simulator will limit wear on our boats, sometimes difficult to repair," noting that "often the boats were being damaged, particularly during the initial learning at sea."

The primary beneficiaries of the program will be 14 students instructors, destined to become captains.
