Haiti - Reconstruction : New police station of Léogâne

Friday, the new police station of Léogâne was inaugurated. Reconstructed in accordance with the seismic standards at a cost of 2 million Canadian dollars [materials and equipment included], on the site of the old police station, this new police station, the fourth inaugurated in less than three months in the area of Palmes and on the south coast [Gressier, Grand-Goâve et Côtes-de-Fer], is part of the Action Plan for the Recovery and Development of Haiti (PARDH) to restore and strengthen the operational capacities of actors of justice and and public security mainly.

The Centre for International Studies and Cooperation (CECI), the executing agency of the project, worked closely with the PNH and the MINUSTAH in the design of the building with the Canadian firm STRUCTURA [to study structures] and the Haitian firm "AN Construction", which made ​​this project a successful example of Haitian-Canadian cooperation.

"With this new building, the police will work in better conditions and will be able to provide better service to the public," declared the Inspector General of Police Jean-Claude Jeune, who represented for the occasion, Godson Aurélus , the Director General of the National Police of Haiti (PNH).

The reconstruction of infrastructure of governance, in particular of polcie station is funded to the tune of $ 4.989 million by the Government of Canada, through the Working Group for the stabilization and reconstruction of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade.

In addition, this project has contributed to the development of training for the actors involved : infrastructure maintenance, prevention, treatment of cases of gender violence, mediation and first aid, which earned it its innovative character..
