Haiti - Elections : The Executive has finally received the preliminary draft of the electoral law

Tuesday, Lucien Jura the Spokesman of the Presidency confirmed that the preliminary draft of the electoral law had been sent to the Executive, early Monday evening. Stating that this bill, which includes 246 articles, is already being analyzed since Tuesday by consultants of the Head of State for possible modifications before being sent to Parliament as soon as possible.

While reiterating the commitment of President Michel Martelly to contribute to the organization of free elections, honest and democratic Lucien Jura stressed that it is in the interests to achieve good elections, that the Executive reserves the right to revise the text of the draft law, adding that it was too early to say when the draft bill will be submitted to Parliament.

Meanwhile, several civil society organizations whose RNDDH, POHDH, JILAP, SAI and Cohnane insists, in a joint Statement signed Monday, on the necessity for the two rounds of vote take place before the end of 2013 and hopes that the permanence is enacted at the legislative and executive powers for the electoral law is passed and promulgated within a period not exceeding 3 weeks.

For his part, Anthonal Mortimer, Executive Secretary of the Platform of Haitian Human Rights Organizations (POHDH), described as delaying tactics, the decision of the Executive to review the text before sending it to Parliament.
