Haiti - Sports : Samyr Lainé in the triple jump final in Moscow (UPDATE)

The Ministry of Youth, Sports and Civic Action (MJSAC) welcomes the brilliant performance of our compatriot Samyr Lainé, the sole representative of Haiti World Championship Athletics, who qualified Friday, August 16 for the final of the 2013 World Triple Jump being held in Moscow with a triple jump of 16.87 meters.

Samyr Lainé who already contributed to project a positive image of the country at the London Olympics in 2012, can still do honor to Haiti in the Triple Jump Final which will take place this Sunday in Moscow. Samyr who made a jump of 16.87 m in the qualifications held among the world's best jumpers, has a chance of winning a medal, if he can repeat his best performance of the year 2013 (17.36 m), performed at the Grand Prix of California, Walnut on April 20, which allowed him to be ranked 7th most powerful athlete of the year 2013.

However, the podium will not be easy for Samyr, against opponents like the French, Teddy Tamgho (17.41 m) which achieved the best performance of qualifications in front of the French Martinican origin, Yoann Rapinier Rapinier (17.39 m) and the American world champion Christian Taylor (17.36 m).

List of 12 finalists in the triple jump :

Teddy Tamgho : 17,41 m (France)

Yoann Rapinier : 17,39 m (France)

Christian Taylor : 17,36 m (USA)

Will Claye : 17,08 m (USA)

Pedro Pablo Pichardo : 17,06 m (Cuba)

Dong Bin : 16,98 m (China)

Marian Oprea : 16,91 m (Romania)

Samyr Lainé : 16,87 m (Haiti)

Fabrizio Schembri : 16,83 m (Italia)

Aleksey Federov : 16,83 m (Russia)

Dimitrios Tsiamis : 16,69 m (Greece)

Gaëtan Saku Bafuanga : 16,63 m (France)

Magalie Racine, the Minister of Youth, Sports and Civic Action, which reaffirms its commitment to support the Haitian sports movement through sports federations and associations, in order to ensure our athletes an honorable participation in international competitions, took the opportunity to wish good luck to Samyr Lainé and invites everyone to express its solidarity and support to our compatriot.

UPDATE : Results of the final

Unfortunately, Samyr Lainé finished 11th of 12 in the final of the triple jump of the 2013 World Athletics Championships held in Moscow, with a jump of 16.09 m. Teddy Tamgho (Frace) won the first place with a jump of 18.04 m, Pedro Pablo Pichardo (Cuba) the second place with a jump of 17.68 m, and Will Claye (USA) the third place with a jump of 17.52m.

"I'm disappointed (understatement) and angry (also understatement)...but not defeated. Was a learning/growing experience and I'll no doubt come out that much better as a result. Thanks for all of the encouragement," declared Samyr Lainé.
