Haiti - NOTICE : The Government of Canada will require biometric data

As of September 4, 2013, the Government of Canada will require visitors, students, and workers from numerous countries, including Haiti, to give their biometrics fingerprints and photograph when they apply for a temporary resident visa or permit. Effective September 4, 2013, the new requirement will become mandatory for citizens of Haiti, after September 4, applicants will need to pay an $85 fee to give their biometrics.

This new biometric requirement will protect applicants by making it more difficult for others to forge, steal or use an applicant’s identity to gain access to Canada. In the long run, the use of biometrics will facilitate entry to Canada by providing a reliable tool to readily confirm a person’s identity. For more information, visit cic.gc.ca/biometrics.

The person wishing to apply for a visitor visa, study permit or work permit may apply to the new visa application centre (VAC) of Port-au-Prince located at 117 bis, route of Canapé Vert Petionville, Haiti. It is important to note that the VAC is not involved in the decision making process and is not authorized to provide applicants with advice about their visas.

VAC service agents are available by phone, email or in person to answer questions in local languages and to make sure that applications are complete. This helps avoid unnecessary delays or refusals due to incomplete applications.

For an additional fee, the VAC also offers other services, including photocopies, application photographs and self-service computer terminals for those wishing to take advantage of the new online applications.
