Haiti - Politic : Milestone in the history of Social Security in Haiti

Thursday at the National Palace, President Michel Martelly, has proceeded with the installation of the members of the Superior Council of Wages and of Board of Social Security Bodies (CAOSS). The inauguration ceremony was attended by Charles Jean Jacques, the Minister of Social Affairs and Labour, some members of government, parliamentarians, members of the private sector, representatives of international organizations and the trade union sector .

The setting-up of these two institutions, is a milestone in the history of social security in Haiti. The Head of State stressed the importance of the Superior Council of Wages (CSS) and of the Board of Social Security Bodies (CAOSS) in the practices of good management. These two structures will improve the performance of the institutions provided for by law in order to strengthen our democracy, to support the Republican values, while ensuring security and peace for all citizens. "I rely on these stakeholders who will have to assume their responsibilities."

In addition, the installation of CSS and CAOSS aims to respond to the needs of workers, 30 years after the passage of the law establishing the CAOSS and CSS. The Head of State believes it is necessary to strengthen the organization of our social security system. With CAOSS, ONA [Office of National Pension Insurance] and will OFATMA [Office of Workers' Compensation Insurance, Sickness and Maternity] will be better able to satisfy the workers in terms of social benefits and will be able to contribute more to the stability and national cohesion. "By making functional CAOSS I want to reform and strengthen the foundations of our social security system guaranteeing a distribution in solidarity between generations. I take this opportunity to remind the mandatory nature of contributions to social security funds."

Members of the Board of Social Security Bodies (CAOSS) :

Volmy Desrameaux Fils, Tamara Georges Decastro, Réginald de Delva, (State Representatives) ;

Nahomme Dorvil, Nathale Hermantin, Gérald Marie Tardieu ( Representatives of employers) ;

Leonel Pierre, Wisler Romain, Yvane Elie Castera (Representatives of employees).

Members of the Superior Council of Wages (CSS) :

Norma Powell, Jean Dany Pierre Francois, Réginald Boulos (Representatives of employers) ;

Jean Bonald Golinsky Fatal, Jean Franck Noisimond, Louis Fignolé St Cyr (Representatives of employees).

In his speech, the Minister of Social Affairs thanked the CAOSS and CSS that, in a patriotic spirit and of public service, have agreed as part of tripartism to be part of these Councils and give their time to advance the agenda of social security and the highly sensitive issue of the wage in Haiti.
