Haiti - Heritage : Resumption of the Exhibition on the Gingerbread style

As part of the project "Atis nan kay la" and of "Watch day" for the Haitian historical heritage, Knowledge and Freedom Foundation (FOKAL) resumed the exhibition on the Gingerbread style from Saturday, September 21 and until September 28, 2013 under the pergola of the FOKAL.

This exhibition, through forty boards, puts in context the creation of historic neighborhood of Gingerbread houses of Port-au-Prince during the second half of the nineteenth century. It will also address the architectural approach of the builders of these houses, the different construction techniques they used and the challenges that represents today, the preservation and rehabilitation of this heritage.

Despite their age and lack of maintenance these homes have surprisingly resilient to shocks of the earthquake. They also crossed during many years many bad weather to which we are constantly exposed. Now, in addition to being true jewels of our built heritage, these houses are models to be taken into account in the reconstruction project of Port-au-Prince.

The exhibition, open to the public Monday through Saturday from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm, is an opportunity to discover or rediscover the testimony of Haitian creativity than are the Gingerbreads.
